Milan newsstand Edicola Magenta reopens as exhibition space and bookstore

exhibition · 2026-04-27

Edicola Magenta, a disused newsstand at Corso Magenta 24 in Milan, reopened on November 22, 2023, as a multidisciplinary cultural space. The project is led by the nonprofit cultural association Zona Blu, based in the former industrial area of via Boffalora. The kiosk will host site-specific works, video installations, and a rotating program co-curated by various cultural entities. Its inaugural activation includes Edicola Botanica, a micro greenhouse installation by Clinica Botanica, an urban nursery specializing in reclaimed and native plants; a selection of editorial products curated by Commerce and Volume; and vintage and design objects from Liligutt. Clinica Botanica also operates as a temporary shop, with a December 16 event titled "A Natale regala una pianta" featuring a botanical dice game. Books and vinyls are offered by independent bookstore Volume and contemporary art bookstore Commerce, which succeeded A+MBookstore (founded in 1993) in via Tadino in 2021. The project follows a similar initiative, AEdicola Lambrate, launched in July 2023 in via Conte Rosso, which also repurposes an abandoned newsstand for art, music, and publishing, with a preview event on July 28, 2023, in collaboration with Libere Edizioni. Edicola Magenta aims to revive the community role of neighborhood newsstands in Milan.
