Milan newsstand becomes fake real estate agency for lost opportunities

exhibition · 2026-04-26

In Milan's Darsena district, the historic Edicola Radetzky, a early 20th-century iron-and-glass kiosk with a pagoda roof, has been transformed into a site-specific installation titled 'Immobili – aree.it' by artist Biancoshock (born 1982 in Milan). Curated by Alessandra Ioalè, the work turns the exhibition space into a fake real estate agency plastered with ads for abandoned and unfinished properties, critiquing speculation and neglect in Milan. The kiosk, originally a newsstand, was renovated in 2015 by the association Progetto Città Ideale, founded by artists Fiorella Fontana (born 1984 in Caravaggio) and Stefano Serusi (born 1980 in Alghero), to become a micro-venue for contemporary art. The installation, visible until January 4, 2025, covers the kiosk's windows with property ads selected by the artist after surveying Milan, and offers brochures to the public. Biancoshock's work aims to highlight 'lost opportunities' and promote visionary projects that revitalize urban spaces, exemplified by Edicola Radetzky itself. The project mimics the graphic style of Italy's leading real estate website.
