Milan Launches Major Restoration of Duomo and Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II
The Lombardy Region is investing €3 million into a three-year project to restore Milan's Duomo, set to finish in 2026. Initial efforts will target the Capocroce Nord, addressing pilons, windows, spires, and statues. In 2025, the lower tiburium will undergo consolidation, followed by the restoration of the 1938 organ in 2026. Since 1387, the Veneranda Fabbrica del Duomo di Milano has managed conservation efforts. The facade was finalized between 1807 and 1813, with additional doors installed in the early 20th century. From 2021 to 2023, €6 million was allocated for various restoration works. Meanwhile, the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II restoration will commence with a €900,000 budget. Palazzo Marino has dedicated €18 million for roof repairs, while Tod's is contributing €2.5 million to Palazzo Marino's restoration, expected to be completed by 2025.
