Milan Exhibition Honors Influential Gallerist Giorgio Marconi
BKV Fine Art in Milan presents 'Caro Giorgio…' (until July 26, 2024), a tribute to Giorgio Marconi (1930–2024), one of Italy's most influential gallerists. The exhibition features works by 16 artists who defined Studio Marconi, which opened in 1965 as a space for exhibiting, studying, and discussing art. Marconi abandoned medical studies to pursue art, aided by his father Egisto, a frame maker who connected him with 1930s artists. The show includes pieces from the 1960s–1980s, loaned by private Milanese collections, tracing Studio Marconi's history from its first exhibition (Adami, Del Pezzo, Schifano, Tadini) to its last in 1992 (Hsiao Chin). The exhibition has no commercial value but focuses on the personal relationships between Marconi and his artists. Massimo Paolo Maria Vecchia, a partner at BKV Fine Art, stated the goal is to highlight the human bonds Marconi shared with his gallery artists, with whom he lived closely. Marconi once described artists as 'people who think and dream, who ride a hippogriff and take off.' The show also recreates a unique catalog—a box with four puzzles featuring exhibition works—as Marconi believed puzzles engage viewers more than traditional catalogs.
