Milan Archive Invites Artists to Engage with Pharaildis Van den Broeck's Legacy

exhibition · 2026-05-04

In a basement studio near viale Papiniano and Sant'Agostino metro in Milan, the archive of fashion designer and painter Pharaildis Van den Broeck has launched a Project Room series. The first artist, Alessandro Roma, created two artist books inspired by Van den Broeck's library, on view until April 15. Curator Barbara Garatti conceived the Project Room as a way to present Van den Broeck's work through the lens of other artists, avoiding formal critical apparatus. The archive, supported by Michele Sagramoso, Van den Broeck's husband, holds over 2,000 paintings and numerous drawings from 1994 to 2014. Future participants include Giulio Squillacciotti (May) and Andrea Kvas (September). Each Project Room includes a publication by Emiliano Biondelli designed as a foldable poster. The works produced become part of the archive.
