Mikoü Architecture Restores Yves Saint Laurent and Pierre Bergé’s Paris Atelier

architecture-design · 2026-05-07

In Paris’s Montparnasse district, Mikoü Architecture has transformed the former workshop of Yves Saint Laurent and Pierre Bergé. This 1,500 sqm atelier, situated within an Art Nouveau structure, has connections to notable artists such as Amedeo Modigliani and Guillaume Apollinaire. The renovation accentuates Art Deco elements while maintaining the original floral Art Nouveau details, exposed brick, and wooden beams. New additions feature translucent glass pavers and oak. A central void has been created to enhance light and views, complemented by a black metal and wood staircase inspired by Pierre Chareau’s Maison de Verre. The redesigned open-plan area includes a courtyard and large glazed roof, now occupied by a French leather goods brand. Selma and Salwa Mikoü lead the design, with photography by Filip Dujardin.
