Mike Parr's 'Intimate Resistance' Retrospective at Casa Morra, Naples

A major exhibition called 'Mike Parr. The Intimate Resistance: 1971-2023' is highlighting the work of the renowned Australian performance artist Mike Parr at Casa Morra in Naples, running from September 28, 2023, to January 31, 2024. Curated by Eugenio Viola in collaboration with MAMBO – Museo de Arte Moderno de Bogotá, this is the first comprehensive showcase of Parr's influential art in Italy. The display features more than 80 items, including videos, photos, installations, and archival materials. A standout piece is his new performance 'Painting Towards a Hole and a Head' (2023), part of the 'Blind Paintings' series. The exhibition also includes earlier works like 'Pushing a Movie Camera Over a Hill' (1971) and contemporary pieces like 'Falling Self-Portrait' (2023), along with the four-channel video installation 'Montage in Space & Time' (1971-2023) and 'Photo-Death' (2023), which explores deep themes of identity and self-perception. The title reflects Josep Maria Esquirol's idea of 'intimate resistance' as vital to life.
