Mike Nelson and Can I Step On It? at Franco Noero, Turin
At Franco Noero gallery in Turin, two concurrent exhibitions run until late 2016. In the basement, Mike Nelson's installation, first conceived for the 2003 Istanbul Biennial and realized in 2009, juxtaposes unfinished concrete with Ottoman-era wooden planks, symbolizing the clash between Ottoman dynasty and Kemalist Republic in Turkish political history. Upstairs, the group show "Can I Step On It?" explores horizontality through works by Carl Andre, Ian Wilson's 1968 "Circle on the floor," Aldo Mondino's "Mekka Mokka" blending coffee rituals with Tibetan mandala, Lara Favaretto's rusted pipes (one wrapped in blue wool), Gabriel Kuri's "Donation Box" addressing economic and industrial themes, and Jason Dodge's "Plant Life" featuring plants from Luigi Einaudi's garden. Other artists include Darren Bader, Alighiero Boetti, Dominique Gonzalez-Foerster, Philip Lai, and Henrik Olesen. The exhibitions run until December 23, 2016 (Nelson) and May 7, 2016 (group show) at Via Mottalciata 10b.
