Mike D Co-Curates 'Mishpocha' at Jewish Museum Frankfurt

Beastie Boys co-founder Mike D has co-curated 'Mishpocha. The Art of Collaboration' at the Jewish Museum Frankfurt, exploring chosen family beyond biological ties through art, migration, and subculture. The exhibition features Ira Eduardovna's video installation 'The Library Room,' depicting her Bukharian Jewish family packing a suitcase. An interactive club room immerses visitors in techno, hip-hop, punk, and Riot Grrrl scenes. Museum director Mirjam Wenzel distinguishes between birth family and actively chosen 'like-minded' communities. Mike D serves as artistic director and brand ambassador, collaborating with design firm Atelier Markgraph and caterer Ima Clique. The show opens with a sound installation by Jan Ove Hennig interviewing 30 people about the term 'Mischpoche.' Jan Zappner's photo series 'Mischpoche. Being Jewish, However' documents Jews in Germany. Paintings by Ethiopian-Israeli artists Nirit Takele and Shimon Wanda address dual exclusion. Interactive spaces include a music-making room and an outdoor 'Open Stage.' The exhibition runs at the Jewish Museum Frankfurt in 2026.
