Mikael Axelsson designs height-adjustable stool for IKEA PS collection
Swedish designer Mikael Axelsson has created the IKEA PS 2026 Stool, a height-adjustable birchwood stool with a saw-tooth base and blue lacquered latch, inspired by a traditional Swedish Tvingman clamp. Released today as part of IKEA's 10th PS collection, the stool features an analogue lock mechanism: users push a wedge-shaped lever upward to loosen the latch and manually slot the base into a higher or lower setting. Axelsson exaggerated the lever and teeth for intuitive use, testing it on his children. The stool is one of 30 pieces in the collection, which also includes Axelsson's bright green inflatable chair launched during Milan Design Week. The collection aims to offer cutting-edge Scandinavian design at affordable prices. Dezeen also highlighted other products from the collection, including lamps by Dutch designer Lex Pott.
