Mika Rottenberg's Surreal Art at MAMbo Bologna
Mika Rottenberg's exhibition at MAMbo in Bologna features eleven works, three created specifically for the show, in collaboration with Goldsmiths Centre for Contemporary Art London and Kunsthaus Bregenz. The Argentine-born, Israeli-American artist, winner of the 2019 Kurt Schwitters Prize, shares stylistic traits with the German Dadaist. The installation includes Smoky Lips (Study #4), a life-sized silicone mouth emitting smoke, containing a surreal video. Visitors queue to peer inside, experiencing discomfort and humor. Rottenberg critiques mass society and assembly lines through grotesque imagery, such as characters sneezing bizarre food plates and rabbits. The exhibition runs in the Sala delle ciminiere, continuing MAMbo's focus on female artists.
