MigrArt In Residence Brings Art to Lignano's Winter Emptiness

festival-fair · 2026-05-05

MigrArt In Residence, a winter residency in Lignano Sabbiadoro, transforms the deserted seaside town into an art hub. Curator Eva Comuzzi leads three Friulian artists—Michele Bazzana, Ryts Monet, and Kristian Sturi—who mentor nine under-30 artists selected from the Triveneto region. The program aims to foster intergenerational learning and reflect on Lignano's dual identity: bustling summer resort versus desolate winter ghost town. Works are displayed across institutional venues like Terrazza Mare and informal spaces such as vacant winter shops. The collective exhibition opens Sunday, March 11. The residency is part of the second edition of the MigrArt Festival, conceived by the collective Menti Libere, founded in Lignano in 2012, which uses art to fill empty spaces and moments outside the summer season. The artists developed their projects during a six-day residency, guided by local residents through tourist and natural sites, resulting in both finished works and evolving interventions that explore the bipolarity of the location—fullness and emptiness, excitement and melancholy, invasion and abandonment.
