Miglio a Colori: a one-mile-long mural to memorialize the pandemic in Milan
The artistic collective PXLs is transforming its provocative poster campaign from March 2021 into a monumental hand-painted mural one mile long, connecting Piazzale Lodi to Piazzale Corvetto in southeast Milan. Titled 'Miglio a Colori,' the permanent work will cover 3,200 square meters and involve local associations, residents, and children. It is part of the 'Miglio delle Farfalle' floral reforestation project, led by Fondazione Cariplo and coordinated by Labsus and Italia Nostra. A crowdfunding campaign on Produzioni dal Basso offers 297 limited-edition copies of the original RESO2020 poster, printed by Fratelli Bonvini 1909 and Arti Grafiche Zacchetti. Until September 2021, PXLs is collecting Milanese thoughts on the pandemic via its website to translate emotions into the mural's imagery. BluPXLs, the collective's spokesperson, stated the work represents what was most missed during lockdown: concrete experiences rooted in the territory and its people.
