Mies van der Rohe Award 2022: 449 Projects Nominated Across Europe
The Mies van der Rohe Award 2022, part of the European Union Prize for Contemporary Architecture, has revealed a total of 449 nominated projects, with Spain and France at the forefront. Italy contributes 18 entries, showcasing designs from Maria Giuseppina Grasso Cannizzo, ElasticoFarm, and Edoardo Tresoldi. Additionally, three Italian-designed structures located internationally are in contention: a public monument in Veszprém, Hungary; Villa E in Skopje, North Macedonia; and the Z33 House extension in Hasselt, Belgium, created by Francesca Torzo. Due to the pandemic, the award schedule was modified. Notably, for the first time since 2003, residential nominations surpass those for cultural buildings. The Netherlands boasts the highest number of architectural exports, totaling eight projects. BIG – Bjarke Ingels Group has four nominations, while COBE has three. Established in 1987, this award continues to celebrate architectural excellence.
