MIDA, Europe's First Museum Dedicated to Women Artists, Opens in Piedmont

On May 28, 2023, Ceresole d'Alba, Italy, saw the inauguration of MIDA – Museo Internazionale delle Donne Artiste, marking the establishment of Europe’s inaugural museum focused on female artists. Housed in the 17th-century Madonna dei Prati church, this initiative was spearheaded by Mayor Franco Olocco and is overseen by Art Book Web, Turismo in Langa, and AICS. Vincenzo Sanfo, the artistic director, emphasized the importance of celebrating women's artistic contributions. The museum's permanent collection showcases works from notable artists such as Marina Abramović, Yayoi Kusama, and Frida Kahlo, with future expansions anticipated through donations. Additionally, MIDA features outdoor art installations and tribute tiles for artists like Sarah Biffen and Lee Krasner, with plans to grow biannually to boost cultural tourism.
