MicroMuseo di Arte Contemporanea della Tuscia Opens in Medieval Tower

exhibition · 2026-04-27

A medieval tower in Sipicciano, a small village in the Tuscia region of Lazio, has been transformed into the MicroMuseo di Arte Contemporanea della Tuscia. Founded by art critic and curator Antonio Arévalo, the museum inaugurates with a site-specific intervention by Chilean artist Iván Navarro titled 'Eccidio'. The 12-meter tower, originally built for observation and defense of the Palazzo Baronale, was later used for electricity distribution by Enel until the 1970s. Arévalo purchased the tower and converted it into a micro-museum focused on contemporary visual arts, preserving traces of its industrial past such as electrical lines and safety lights. The opening event on June 28 features a dialogue between artists Gian Maria Tosatti and Iván Navarro, moderated by curator Gabi Scardi. Future plans include works by Santiago Sierra and other international artists. The project aims to create an interactive, work-in-progress space that serves as an unconventional cultural hub for Lazio, leveraging the region's historical appeal to artists and writers. Arévalo emphasizes the importance of community engagement, noting high local attendance during the Giornate del Contemporaneo. The initiative also seeks to integrate contemporary art into urban regeneration, fostering creative practices and attracting new residents and visitors to Sipicciano and Graffignano.
