Microclub launches in Reggio Emilia as new clubbing hub

In Reggio Emilia, a new monthly club night called Microclub launched in January 2024 at the Arci Tunnel, aiming to merge clubbing with cultural discourse. Organized by the historic Maffia collective, the format combines talks and DJ sets from 9:30 PM to 4 AM. The February talk, titled "This is not the Hand. Dal Maffia al clubbing," revisited the legacy of the legendary Arci Maffia venue, featuring founders Federico Amico, Letizia Rustichelli, Paolo Davoli, Gabriele Fantuzzi, and Luca Roccatagliati (dj Rocca). The Maffia collective, active since the late 1980s, was an avant-garde multidisciplinary group with communist orientation, running a radio station (Antenna1 Rock station) and booking acts like the Chemical Brothers, Prodigy, Fatboy Slim, and Howie B. via London record shop Atlas. The March edition focused on Andrea Benedetti's reissued book "Mondo Techno" (first published in 2006), which traces techno music from Detroit to global spread, including Italy's early raves in Rome (1989) and Naples' 1990s scene. April's event covered photography, directing, and Berlin clubs, while May's season finale is pending.
