Mickey Mouse to star in Panini Comics volume on contemporary art
Panini Comics will release 'L'arte raccontata da Topolino' (Art Told by Mickey Mouse) on April 5, 2023, as issue 3515 of the Topolino series. The volume features eight stories introducing children to Cubism, Dadaism, photography, and early 20th-century painting. Jacopo Veneziani, a young influencer and educator, wrote the introduction. The first story, 'Topolino e i capolavori paradossali,' features Pablo Topasso, a parody of Pablo Picasso, explaining Cubism to Mickey and Goofy. A later story focuses on Dadaism through the antics of Fethry Duck (Paperoga), with references to Marcel Duchamp's L.H.O.O.Q. and a parody of the Mona Lisa. The volume closes with 'Mickey Mouseau e lo scatto di soppiatto,' written and drawn by Roberto Gagnor and Luca Usai, set in 1930s Paris and dedicated to photography, and 'Paperino & Paperoga artisti d'avanguardia' by Enrico Faccini, which satirizes the difficulty of interpreting modern art. The book will be available in newsstands and comic book stores.
