Michelle Teear's Egg Tempera Landscapes at Straitjacket

Newcastle-based artist Michelle Teear, a queer disabled woman working in egg tempera, presents 'Expansion' at Straitjacket gallery in New South Wales from 9 to 31 May 2026. The exhibition features remote landscape subjects that serve as neutral spaces for perspective, inspired by a month in Western Queensland's Channel Country observing spring floodplains. Works like 'Genesis Cradle' (2025, egg tempera on board, 80 × 60cm) depict rocky outcrops and waterholes as contemplative gateways to inner landscapes, using intuitive mark making to explore self-expansion and unconscious memory.
