Michelle Kuo appointed curator at MoMA following Artforum resignation

institutional · 2026-04-20

Michelle Kuo has been named the curator of painting and sculpture at the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York. This decision comes after her departure as Artforum's editor-in-chief in October 2017, which followed allegations of sexual harassment against copublisher Knight Landesman. Kuo expressed that she could no longer represent Artforum publicly and highlighted the urgent need for a safer, fairer art environment for women. At MoMA, she will oversee exhibitions and aid in the museum's acquisitions, engaging with both historical and contemporary works. Ann Temkin, MoMA's chief curator, remarked on Kuo's valuable editorial and scholarly experience. Kuo had been with Artforum since 2010, and David Velasco took over her role. The announcement was made on 28 February 2018.
