Michele Tocca's 'Poca Notte' Opens at Galleria Sara Zanin's New Testaccio Space
Galleria Sara Zanin inaugurates its new Testaccio space in Rome with 'Poca Notte,' the first solo exhibition of Michele Tocca (born 1983 in Subiaco), curated by Davide Ferri. The title, meaning 'Little Night,' refers to the artist's habit of waking before dawn to paint in the crepuscular hours between night and day. The show features small-format oil-on-linen works, many painted en plein air during walks. Tocca explores thresholds—between interior and exterior, night and day—often framing views through windows, binoculars, or sunglasses. Key works include 'Poca Notte, Finestra,' nine assembled canvases depicting a condominium window; 'Scopa dell'uscio,' where dust becomes pictorial matter; and a series of metaphorical self-portraits using clothing: 'Troppo Presto' (a rain-soaked T-shirt on a chair), 'Rimangono le Scarpe' (deformed 'landscape shoes'), and 'Troppo Tardi' (a worn red sweater from lockdown on an easel). The exhibition runs at Via Alessandro Volta in Rome's Testaccio district.
