Michele Spanghero's 'Monologue For Two' at SIAC Chicago

exhibition · 2026-05-05

Sound artist Michele Spanghero (born 1979 in Gorizia) presents 'Monologue For Two,' a video installation at the Maclean Ballroom of the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC), running until September 21, 2017. The work is part of the collateral events of the Chicago Architecture Biennial and is curated by Alessandro Possati of Zuecca Project Space. 'Monologue For Two' is a dialogue between Teatro La Fenice in Venice and the Lyric Opera House in Chicago, featuring two videos of the artist recording the acoustic resonance of each empty theater. The installation extends Spanghero's ongoing 'Monologues' project, initiated in 2014, which documents the sound of empty theaters. The work explores the relationship between space and sound in historic theaters, creating a bridge between Italy and the United States through art, sound, and silence.
