Michele Spanghero's 'Ad libitum' Blends Music and Medicine at TRA Treviso
Michele Spanghero (Gorizia, 1979) presents 'Ad libitum' at TRA / Ca' dei Ricchi in Treviso, an installation that merges music and medicine. The title references a term used in both musical scores and medical contexts. The central work consists of nine organ pipes connected to a medical lung ventilator, which plays an F major chord from a requiem by Johannes Brahms. Opposite, on a pedestal, sits an ancient Mongolian shamanic mirror (toli) from the ethnographic collection of Sergio Poggianella. The two elements face each other, each embodying a hope for healing—one rooted in positivist science, the other in ancient beliefs. Curated by Chiara Ianeselli, the exhibition runs until December 11, 2016, at TRA, Via Barberia 25, Treviso. Spanghero's intervention serves as an allegory reflecting on life and death, humanity and machine, will and inevitability.
