Michele Placido Reads Poetry at Roman Forum in Digital Series

cultural-heritage · 2026-04-27

On December 5, 2020, the Parco archeologico del Colosseo in Rome streamed the second episode of its series 'Canti di pietra al Foro Romano' on Facebook and YouTube. Actor Michele Placido performed poems by Gabriele Tinti inspired by statues once housed in the Portico degli Dèi Consenti, a Roman cult site near the Temple of Saturn. The portico, reconstructed in the 19th century, held twelve golden statues of the Dii Consentes (six male, six female gods) documented by Varro in the 1st century BCE. The next event on December 17 will feature Stephen Fry reading Tinti's poem 'Saturn' to coincide with the Saturnalia festival (December 17–23), a precursor to modern Christmas gift-giving traditions.
