Michele Petrucci's Graphic Novel on Giovanni Lindo Ferretti Debuts at Lucca Comics & Games

publication · 2026-04-26

Michele Petrucci, a comic artist from Fano, has created a graphic novel about Giovanni Lindo Ferretti, the frontman of Italian punk band CCCP and later CSI. The book will premiere at Lucca Comics & Games. Petrucci, who started self-publishing in 1999 with the Reggio Emilia collective Innocent Victim, has published ten solo graphic novels including works on local history like 'Metauro' and 'Il Brigante Grossi' for Tunué, and 'Il sogno di Vitruvio' for saldaPress. He also collaborated with mountaineer Reinhold Messner on 'Messner, la montagna, il vuoto, la fenice' for Coconino Press. The Ferretti project began with Petrucci's admiration for Ferretti's writing, particularly from CSI's 1990s output. A mutual friend facilitated visits to Ferretti's home in Cerreto Alpi. Petrucci proposed adapting Ferretti's story about his favorite horse, Tancredi, which appears in a CSI song and Ferretti's writings. Petrucci created a storyboard from Ferretti's interviews, books, and lyrics; Ferretti then revised the texts over two years, rewriting entire sequences. Petrucci had full freedom on the artwork, while Ferretti controlled the text. Ferretti also wrote a long afterword. Petrucci describes his approach to biographical comics as working in 'the white spaces of history,' imagining unknown aspects of iconic figures. For Artribune, he created a comic about his own journey from Fano to Cerreto Alpi with two friends to meet Ferretti, a tense but rewarding trip.
