Michèle Lamy Curates Chiaroscuro at ICD Brookfield Place Dubai

ICD Brookfield Place Arts in Dubai presents Chiaroscuro, an exhibition curated by Michèle Lamy in collaboration with Carpenters Workshop Gallery. Opening February 27, 2024, the show features 20 artists and designers exploring light and dark. It coincides with Art Dubai and draws inspiration from the city's day-to-night landscape. The exhibition is divided into two sections: 'The Darkness' and 'The Light'. 'The Darkness' includes Rick Owens' Gallic Chair, Wendell Castle's The Light of Darkness, Atelier Van Lieshout's Blast Furnace Cabinet and Mammal Lamp, and Kendell Geers' Flesh of the Spirit. 'The Light' features works like Studio Drift's Fragile Futures, Verhoeven Twins' glass bubble sculptures, and pieces by Maarten Baas, Campana Brothers, Jose Davila, Martin Laforêt, Studio Job, and Roger Herman. Regional artists include Latifa Saeed (Braided series with studio MĒRU), Omar Al Gurg (Spike sculptures), Zeinab Alhashemi, and Khaled Zaki. Nacho Carbonell presents contrasting works: Combi Cocoon 2 and Inside a Forest. Lamy states the exhibition reimagines the world through local and universal artists, fighting for a new way of being. Malak Abu-Qaoud, curator of ICD Brookfield Place Arts, highlights the cross-cultural collaboration. Julien Lombrail, founder of Carpenters Workshop Gallery, notes the new perspective Dubai offers.
