Michele De Lucchi Named New Director of Domus Magazine
Michele De Lucchi has been appointed the new director of Domus, the historic architecture, design, and contemporary art magazine founded by Gio Ponti 79 years ago. He succeeds Nicola Di Battista. The first issue under De Lucchi's direction will be released on January 8, 2018, in 89 countries. Maria Giovanna Mazzocchi, President of Editoriale Domus, announced the change, praising De Lucchi as representing Italian excellence with an international vision. De Lucchi, born in Ferrara in 1951, designed the Padiglione Zero for Expo Milano 2015. His editorial approach will emphasize dialogue across disciplines, with the magazine focusing on objects and their meanings. The magazine will undergo a structural overhaul, covering architecture, design, contemporary art, anthropology, economics, meteorology, and philosophy. Contributors will include architects, designers, sociologists, economists, and visual artists. De Lucchi has identified keywords for his ten issues: "rebellion," "silence," "emotion," and "chaos." Walter Mariotti, appointed in September 2017, will coordinate the Domus system and ensure continuity across the ten architects' visions. British designer Mark Porter, known for The Guardian's graphic identity, will redesign Domus's layout, emphasizing images and block-organized news. The new domusweb.it platform launched in October 2017.
