Michele De Lucchi Installs 'Dentro Fuori' at Arte Sella in Trentino
Architect Michele De Lucchi, who became director of Domus in January as part of a rotating leadership until 2028, has unveiled his installation 'Dentro Fuori' at Arte Sella. Located in the garden of Villa Strobele, the work is made entirely of larch wood from Valsugana with a roof of traditionally split shingles. De Lucchi describes it as a free architecture that moves around trees without harming them, incorporating them within. The archetype of the wall, which both divides space and offers shelter, inspired the piece; its openings frame the forest and mountains. This installation strengthens Arte Sella's architectural hybridization project begun in 2017, under the scientific supervision of Marco Imperadori from Politecnico di Milano. Previous architectural works include Atsushi Kitagawara's 'Forest Byoubu' at Malga Costa and Kengo Kuma's 'Kodama' at Villa Strobele, inaugurated on May 6. Kuma's 'Kodama' explores the concept of void through a sphere carved from a single local larch element, referencing Junichiro Tanizaki's 'In Praise of Shadows'. The work was developed jointly by Kengo Kuma Lab at Tokyo University, Politecnico di Milano, and d3wood, with Ri-Legno handling construction optimization. Future installations in 2018 include works by John Grade, Rainer Gross, Cédric Le Borgne, and Gianandrea Gazzola.
