Michelangelo's David stars in new animated short film
The Galleria dell'Accademia in Florence has launched 'David 140', a series of free events celebrating the 140th anniversary of Michelangelo's David being housed in the museum's Tribuna. As part of the celebrations, an animated short film titled 'David, 140 anni in ottima forma' has been produced. In the cartoon, the statue steps off its pedestal to explain how it has remained in such good condition for 518 years, crediting monthly dust removal by stone conservators and the protective Tribuna designed by architect Emilio de Fabris with its innovative dome skylight. The video was conceived by Cecilie Hollberg, director of the Galleria dell'Accademia, with story, script, and drawings by Paolo Fiumi, and animation by Antonio Osea Mansi. This storytelling initiative follows guidelines from the Italian Ministry of Culture (MiC) to engage a broader audience by presenting the biblical hero David's story in a fun, pop style.
