Michelangelo Pistoletto and Antony Gormley Among Five Praemium Imperiale Laureates Announced
On 17 September, the Japan Art Association revealed five new Praemium Imperiale laureates, including artists Michelangelo Pistoletto and Antony Gormley. Architect David Chipperfield, producer and screenwriter Francis Ford Coppola, and Spanish tenor and conductor Plácido Domingo also received the global arts prize. Each laureate will be honored with 15 million yen (approximately £95,000), a diploma, and a medal at an awards ceremony scheduled for 16 October in Tokyo. The Praemium Imperiale is awarded annually to recognize outstanding contributions in the arts.
