Michelangelo Penso's 'Dimensioni infinite' at CAMeC Blends Art and Science
At CAMeC in La Spezia, the exhibition 'Michelangelo Penso. Dimensioni infinite' presents works that merge art and science, developed in collaboration with the University of Genoa (DIRAAS and AdAC). The show focuses on the macroscopic sounds of solar system planets and the microscopic capabilities of bacteria. The installation 'Cronòtopo' (2019) lets visitors hear electromagnetic frequencies emitted by planets, with a red thread connecting three contiguous rooms. Wall-mounted sculptural elements translate cosmic signals into material and visual forms. The exhibition offers both performative and traditional viewing experiences. Two site-specific installations, 'Roseobacter' (2019) and 'Pelagibacter' (2019), address environmental sustainability and bacterial capabilities. 'Pelagibacter' hangs from the ceiling, resembling preserved animal specimens in Wunderkammer or ex-votos in cathedrals. The show also includes 'Carnets', reworked notebooks with studies of futuristic organic architectures.
