Michelangelo Jr Gandini's 'Six Survival Exercises' at Vigevano Castle

exhibition · 2026-04-26

The solo retrospective 'Sei esercizi di sopravvivenza' (Six Survival Exercises) by Michelangelo Jr Gandini, curated by Lucrezia Arrigoni, is on view in the Sotterranea of Castello di Vigevano until June 30, 2025. The exhibition features works from 1990 to 1995 organized into six sections, each presenting a method of resistance. Gandini rejects complicity with power, retreating into imaginative creation that prioritizes play over manifesto. The final section, 'Progetto fallimentare per un suicidio farsa' (Failed Project for a Farce Suicide), stages a pictorial suicide as an act of imagination. Other sections include 'Algoritmi disarmanti' (Disarming Algorithms), where gun explosions become microscopic puzzle pieces via AI; 'Qualcosa è andato storto (i naufragi)' (Something Went Wrong – The Shipwrecks), featuring maps and installations previously shown in Genoa; 'Dove sono tutti' (Where Is Everyone), marking Gandini's return after years of voluntary withdrawal; 'La noia' (Boredom), a concrete manifestation of passive resistance; and 'Lievito e cancellazione' (Yeast and Erasure), using yeast as living artistic material and erasure residues as relics. The exhibition runs Monday to Sunday, 10:30–12:30 and 16:30–19:30.
