Michelangelo Bastiani creates holographic art from nature and technology

Michelangelo Bastiani (born 1979 in Bibbiena) creates holographic artworks that blend nature, art, and technology. He studied Painting and Photography at the Accademia di Belle Arti di Firenze, later attended the Art Students League of the Newington-Cropsey Foundation in New York, and worked as a curator for exhibitions focused on American Realism in Europe. Based in Florence, Bastiani was inspired by his father, a painter and architecture graduate. His interactive holograms, often housed in reclaimed glass bottles and jars, depict natural phenomena like water, geysers, clouds, and tornadoes. The works require darkness to be viewed and are based on David Bohm's holographic universe theory. Bastiani describes his art as "popular art" aimed at engaging audiences of all ages. Notable works include "Viaggio al centro della Terra," a site-specific interactive geyser projection at Villa Lysis in Capri (2018), supported by Liquid Art System. He recently contributed "Omaggio a Massimo Troisi" to the exhibition "Troisi poeta Massimo" in Rome, organized by Istituto Luce for the 25th anniversary of the actor's death. Bastiani is currently seeking a gallery in Milan.
