Michela Andreozzi Debuts as Director with Surrogacy Comedy '9 Lune e Mezza'

other · 2026-05-05

Michela Andreozzi makes her directorial debut with '9 Lune e Mezza' (9 and a Half Moons), a comedy exploring motherhood, surrogacy, and modern parenthood. The film follows two sisters: Livia (Claudia Gerini), a rock-style cellist who does not want children, and Tina (Andreozzi), a traffic warden desperate to conceive. Their gynecologist friend Nicola (Stefano Fresi) suggests Livia carry a pregnancy for Tina. Livia's partner Fabio (Giorgio Pasotti) is a charismatic osteopath, while Tina's boyfriend Gianni (Lillo) is also her colleague. The plot thickens as Tina pretends to be pregnant while Livia carries the child, leading to tragicomic situations involving their family: a ragù-champion mother, an idealistic father, and a neocatechumenal brother with a devout wife and four daughters. Released in Italian cinemas by Vision Distribution, the film tackles surrogacy, adoption for gay couples, and the choice of parenthood. Andreozzi, who previously acted in 'Basilicata Coast to Coast', stated that making a first film is like having a first child—done later in life due to survival needs. She felt ready only now, three years ago it would not have been the same.
