Michel Majerus Retrospective at CAPC Bordeaux

exhibition · 2026-04-23

The CAPC musée d'art contemporain de Bordeaux presents the first French retrospective of Michel Majerus, who died at age 35 in a 2002 plane crash. Co-produced with the Kunstmuseum Stuttgart, the exhibition runs from May 31 to September 29, 2012. It features large-scale paintings and installations in the museum's nave, including 'Reminder' (1998), a CNAP deposit, and a monumental reconstruction of the skateboard ramp 'if you are dead, so it is' (2000). Majerus's work, created in less than a decade, merges pop appropriation of 1990s internet culture with a vital urgency. The show highlights his diverse, effervescent painting that juxtaposes commercial forms, artistic references, and digital imagery with surgical precision. Curated by Didier Arnaudet.
