Michael Snow's Piano Sculpture at Galerie Martine Aboucaya

Michael Snow's exhibition at Galerie Martine Aboucaya in Paris from March 13 to April 24, 2010, centered on the installation "Piano Sculpture" (2009), a filmic and sonic work comprising four projections of a piano keyboard in close-up and overhead view. Each projection is paired with a speaker that disrupts the two-dimensionality of the video, creating a dissociation between image and sound. The piece functions as a quartet, with each projection and soundtrack forming an independent yet cohesive whole. A second installation, "Serve, deserve (or, setting, unsetting)" (2009), features a silent video projected from the ceiling onto a table, depicting a still life of spaghetti, salad, water, and wine that appears and disappears in reverse motion, evoking both burlesque and funereal tones. The third work, "Snow (de, à, pour) Thierry Kuntzel" (2007), is a silent looped video of a snowy landscape through a window, dedicated to the late video artist Thierry Kuntzel. The title plays with prepositions to create a poetic link between Snow and Kuntzel, suggesting a relationship of aesthetic kinship.
