Michael Rotondi's Site-Specific Exhibition Across Three Naples Venues
Curated by Marina Guida, the solo show 'Ca piogg’ dint’ ‘o cor’' by Michael Rotondi (born 1977 in Bari) unfolds across three locations in Naples, offering a site-specific exploration of memory through installations, paintings, digital works, and motion graphics. At the former library of San Domenico Maggiore, the animated sound piece 'Botte' is projected in the dark refectory, set in the Bagnoli district near the juvenile prison on Nisida island. At BRAU, the library of the University of Naples Federico II, digital lambda prints form an installation based on postcards the artist received from Naples. The exhibition concludes at Spazio NEA in Piazza Bellini with works on various supports. Rotondi, who lives and works in Milan, presents an alternative Naples rendered universal through the Neapolitan title borrowed from Liberato's song 'Tu t’e’ scurdat e me', which tells a love story between a street kid from Piazza Mercato and a girl from Posillipo. The video clip by Francesco Lettieri features iconic locations like Mergellina seafront, Marechiaro, and Nisida. On Nisida, where fireworks celebrate Napoli victories, festivals, or a prisoner's release, Rotondi's art returns personal and collective memory to the public, blending street art, pop, punk, and indie influences with historical sites.
