Michael Fliri's AniManiMism at Galleria Raffaella Cortese Explores Animism and Transformation
Michael Fliri's exhibition titled 'AniManiMism' is currently on display at Galleria Raffaella Cortese in Milan, highlighting his artistic journey from performance and video to sculpture, masks, photography, and video installations. A key theme in his work is 'cultivated ambiguity,' shaped by his South Tyrolean heritage and experiences in Bologna and Munich. His masks, obtained from the Maskenmuseum Diedorf, establish an 'action space' between the mask and its wearer. Notable pieces include 'My private Fog II' (2017) and 'Gloves' (2017). The video installation 'AniManiMism' features masks striving to communicate. Fliri has recently exhibited at the Ostend Triennial and had a solo show at Cultuurcentrum Mechelen. In 2019, he will present at Magazin 4 in Bregenz and Museum Kitzbühel. His artistic approach is archaeological, connecting animism with Mannerist anthropomorphism.
