Micaiah Carter's 'Tender Heart' exhibition explores Black identity and legacy at Munich's Amerikahaus

The exhibition 'Tender Heart' by Micaiah Carter is on display at Amerikahaus in Munich until 18 January, delving into themes of personal identity, legacy, and memory. At just 30 years old, Carter has made a name for himself through striking portraits of celebrities such as Pharrell, Spike Lee, and Zendaya, alongside commercial projects for brands like Nike, Apple, Ralph Lauren, and Valentino. His work emphasizes the need for greater representation of people of color. In 2019, he was featured in 'The New Black Vanguard,' curated by Antwaun Sargent. Additionally, his 2023 publication 'What's My Name' reflects on African American experiences. Notable pieces in the exhibition include 'Adeline in Barrettes' (2018) and 'Alton in Brooklyn II' (2016). Carter is also a co-founder of the collective See in Black, dedicated to broadening the narrative surrounding Blackness.
