MIC Faenza explores Ginori's alchemy in new exhibition

exhibition · 2026-04-26

The MIC (Museo Internazionale delle Ceramiche) in Faenza presents 'Alchimia Ginori 1737-1896. Arte e tecnica in manifattura', a show curated by Oliva Rucellai and Rita Balleri that delves into the technical and artistic processes of the Ginori manufactory founded by Carlo Ginori in 1737 in Doccia, near Florence. Rather than a celebratory retrospective, the exhibition focuses on material transformation, technical solutions, and formal choices, featuring finished works, models, prototypes, and everyday objects. It highlights Ginori as a research-driven laboratory rather than a mere producer of elegant porcelain. The show is organized in collaboration with the Fondazione Museo Ginori and underscores the relationship between culture and industry, tracing the evolution from Richard Ginori to the contributions of Gio Ponti and the brand's current status as a symbol of Made in Italy in luxury tableware and design. MIC director Claudia Casali emphasizes that behind Ginori's elegance lies a history of technique, experimentation, and technology. The museum, founded in 1908 by Gaetano Ballardini, continues to position ceramics at the intersection of art, design, craftsmanship, and industry.
