Mibact allocates €5.6 million for cultural projects in Southern Italy

cultural-heritage · 2026-05-05

The Italian Ministry of Cultural Heritage (Mibact) is distributing €5.6 million from the Piano di Azione e Coesione (PAC) to fund nineteen cultural enhancement projects in Basilicata, Calabria, Campania, Puglia, and Sicily. The funds, sourced from European Union resources, aim to accelerate the implementation of projects related to cultural heritage preservation and accessibility. The call for proposals, which closed in September, was open only to municipalities in Southern Italy, either individually or in association, with a maximum contribution of €300,000 per project. Winning projects include the recovery of the archaeological park of Campi Flegrei in Pozzuoli, the INTEGRA cultural cluster in Palermo, and initiatives in Nardò, Bari, Corato, Capo d’Orlando, Palizzi, Casarano, Catania, Massafra, Salerno, Potenza, Acireale, Naples, Castrovillari, Altamura, Manfredonia, Vico Equense, and Cassano allo Jonio. Mibact noted that the call fostered healthy competition and plans to publish a new notice within the first half of 2017 for the 2014-2020 PAC funds, also allowing unsuccessful applicants to reapply.
