Mibac Acquires Church of San Procolo in Florence for €1 Million
The Church of San Procolo in Florence has been acquired by the Italian Ministry of Cultural Heritage (Mibac) for €1 million, utilizing its preemptive right. This acquisition, sanctioned by Gino Famiglietti on May 29, marks the first state preemption in several years. Originally an 11th-century Romanesque structure, the church has belonged to the Salviati family since 1786 and lost its parish designation in the 18th century, later becoming affiliated with the Butchers' Guild. It is also connected to Giorgio La Pira, who established the Opera di San Procolo in 1934. The state has secured various artworks, including altarpieces by Matteo Rosselli and Gaetano Piattoli. Following restoration, the church will display the Museo Nazionale del Bargello's sculpture collection, anticipated to be ready in five years.
