miart 2024: Nicola Ricciardi on the Fair's Most Beautiful Edition Yet

festival-fair · 2026-04-26

Nicola Ricciardi, artistic director of miart for the fourth consecutive year, declares the 2024 edition the most beautiful of recent years. The fair, organized by Fiera Milano, runs from April 11 to 14, 2024, preceding both Salone del Mobile and the Venice Biennale. Its theme, 'no time, no space' (borrowed from Franco Battiato), aims to transcend geographical and conceptual boundaries, bringing art into offices, cafes, and cinemas. New this year is the Timescape section, a 'spaceship' traveling backward through centuries, starting with the early 1900s. Ricciardi highlights the fair's recovery from the pandemic, rebuilding trust with galleries and stakeholders. He notes the challenging market but praises galleries for presenting ad-hoc projects, such as Raffaella Cortese's single-work booth. Notable galleries include Galerie Buchholz (Cologne, Berlin), Fortes D'Aloia & Gabriel (São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro), greengrassi (London), Galerie Tschudi (Zuoz, Zurich), KOW, and Galerie Neu (Berlin). The proximity to the Venice Biennale is seen as an advantage, positioning miart as a preview. Milan's Art Week is described as the richest yet, with events at Fondazione Prada, Hangar Bicocca, and other venues. Ricciardi credits Flavia Lo Chiatto, the new VIP Manager, for revolutionizing collector relations.
