miart 2023 Returns to Milan with 169 Galleries and New Henraux Sculpture Prize
The 27th edition of miart, titled 'Crescendo', will take place from April 14 to 16, 2023, at FieraMilano City. Director Nicola Ricciardi, in his second year, describes 'Crescendo' as a sonic metaphor for trajectory rather than a goal. The fair features 169 galleries, a double-digit increase from 2022, with over 40% international participation, continuing the international focus established under previous directors Vincenzo de Bellis and Alessandro Rabottini. The fair is divided into three sections: Emergent, Established, and Decades. Sustainability is a key focus, with digital materials replacing paper, as stated by Fiera Milano general director Luca Palermo. miart will be accompanied by the Milano Art Week (April 11-16), connecting public and private institutions. A new collaboration with Triennale Milano will make it the 'home of miart' during the fair, hosting live events. Intesa Sanpaolo remains main partner. A new prize, the Fondazione Henraux Sculture Commission, will award a participating artist a marble sculpture commission to be exhibited for one year at Museo del Novecento in Milan. High-profile museum directors and curators, including Nicholas Cullinan (National Portrait Gallery, London), Catherine Nichols (Manifesta 14), and Massimiliano Gioni (New Museum, New York and Fondazione Nicola Trussardi, Milan), will select winners.
