miart 2022: 150 Galleries from 21 Countries for Milan's Art Fair

festival-fair · 2026-04-27

Miart, the international modern and contemporary art fair of Milan, will hold its 26th edition from April 1 to 3, 2022 (preview March 31), organized by Fiera Milano and directed for the second time by Nicola Ricciardi. After the postponement of Arte Fiera Bologna, miart marks the start of the 2022 art season in Italy, repositioning itself in spring, just seven months after the emergency September 2021 edition. The fair features 150 galleries from 21 countries, offering works from 20th-century masterpieces to contemporary and emerging art, including design. The fair is structured into three sections: Established (main section with contemporary and 20th-century art, plus collectible design), Decades (curated by Alberto Salvadori, monographic projects exploring art from the 1910s to the 2000s), and Emergent (curated by Attilia Fattori Franchini, dedicated to young galleries and emerging artists). The theme "Primo movimento" (First Movement), borrowed from music, symbolizes the desire to accelerate the sector's recovery. The fair collaborates with the city for the Milano Art Week, featuring openings at Fondazione Prada (Elmgreen & Dragset), PAC (Artur Zmijewski), Pirelli HangarBicocca (Steve McQueen, Anicka Yi), Ordet (Yuli Yamagata), Palazzo Reale (Tiziano), and Fondazione ICA (Miriam Cahn).
