miart 2017: Curatorial Excellence Across Ten Must-See Booths

festival-fair · 2026-05-05

miart 2017, under the new direction of Alessandro Rabottini, opened with a crowded preview attended by collectors and professionals. The fair is structured into sections: Established, Generations, Emergent, Decades, On Demand, and Object. Rabottini and Fondazione Fiera di Milano President Giovanni Gorno Tempini discussed the fair in opening-day videos. The fair maintains a high curatorial level across all booths, functioning like a large exhibition. Notable stands include Prometeogallery with Driant Zeneli, Gabriella Ciancimino, Fabrizio Cotognini, and Giuseppe Stampone (also at Marie Laure Fleish). Stampone presents a continuation of "Saluti dall'Aquila" in Milan and a new path in Rome, including "Hiroshima mon amour". Massimo Grimaldi's On Demand project at Zero.. breaks perspective, while Meris Angioletti at Otto Zoo contrasts zinc and brass forms with liquid paper and projections. Allegra Ravizza, who recently opened a second gallery in Honolulu, shows Nanda Vigo's stroboscopic work. Studio Dabbeni of Lugano presents Daniel Buren's On Demand project. Massimo De Carlo's red booth features a solo show by Gelitin, including a reinvented Mona Lisa and super-contemporary amphorae. Antonio Rovaldi's torn photos are at The Goma, Madrid. Ex Elettrofonica from Rome presents Cristian Chironi and Elena Mazzi; Osart Gallery of Milan shows Piero Fogliati's moving works; Sara Zanin from Rome offers Giovanni Kronenberg's production for On Demand.
