Miart 2016: Vincenzo de Bellis' Final Edition as Director Before Walker Art Center Move

Miart 2016 marks the last edition under director Vincenzo de Bellis, who has been appointed curator of visual arts at the Walker Art Center in Minneapolis. The fair features 154 galleries from 16 countries, with newcomers including Sperone Westwater, Blain Southern, Lelong, Mai 36, Anthony Reynolds, and Greene Naftali. Sections include Established (Masters, Contemporary, First Step), Emergent for galleries under five years old, THENow curated by Jarrett Gregory (LACMA) and Pavel Pyś (Walker Art Center), Object design section curated by Domitilla Dardi (MAXXI), and new Decades section curated by Alberto Salvadori (Museo Marino Marini, Florence). Awards include the Fondo di Acquisizione Fondazione Fiera Milano Giampiero Cantoni with €100,000 (double last year), Premio Emergent, Premio Rotary Club Milano Brera per l'Arte (acquiring a work for MAC – Museo d'Arte Contemporanea di Milano), and Premio Herno. Concurrent city-wide events include the XXI Esposizione Internazionale at Triennale, Carsten Höller at HangarBicocca, Goshka Macuga and Thomas Demand at Fondazione Prada, Miró at Mudec, Boccioni at Palazzo Reale, Sarah Lucas at ex Albergo Diurno (Fondazione Trussardi), and a dozen new galleries and artist-run spaces opening. The fair runs April 8-10, 2016, with preview April 7.
