MIAC at Cinecittà acquires works by Vanessa Beecroft and Anna Di Prospero

institutional · 2026-04-27

The Museo Italiano dell’Audiovisivo e del Cinema (MIAC) at Cinecittà in Rome has reopened with new acquisitions: eight photographs and a video by Vanessa Beecroft (Genoa, 1969) documenting her performance VB93, and twenty-one photographs by Anna Di Prospero (Rome, 1987) from the exhibition La Memoria delle Stazioni at Archivio Storico Luce. The works are the first steps toward a permanent collection. Also presented is Studio EL, the historic workshop of Ettore Scola and Luciano Ricceri, containing drawings, sketches, models, and props. A restored sleigh from Luchino Visconti's film Ludwig (set design by Mario Chiari) was unveiled. Cinecittà President Chiara Sbarigia stated the museum aims to be a place of reflection and syncretism between arts, not aspiring to be the Louvre but to narrate cinema's cultural story. The acquisitions highlight female artists: Di Prospero's are the first photographs by a woman in the Archivio Luce; Beecroft's VB93 performance involved 300 models at Teatro 5 in October 2022.
