MIA Photo Fair 2020 rescheduled to September, aligns with Miart for Milan Art Week
MIA Photo Fair, Italy's leading photography fair, has been rescheduled from March to September 10–13, 2020, due to the national health emergency. The new dates coincide with Miart, creating a first-ever Milan art week experiment. The fair will take place at The Mall in Porta Nuova, marking its 10th anniversary. Founder Fabio Castelli noted a shift in public interest from technical aspects to the quality and significance of images. 135 galleries will participate, including 50 from 16 countries, though Chinese galleries withdrew due to the coronavirus. Curated sections include Beyond Photography (curated by Elio Grazioli, focusing on Italian experimental photography from the 1960s–70s), Focus on Netherlands, USA, and Korea, and a program on female creativity tied to Milan's 2020 initiatives. Socially engaged photography features Gianni Berengo Gardin, Sebastião Salgado, and Letizia Battaglia. The Arte e Scienza format returns with a neuroscience project in collaboration with Ospedale San Raffaele. BNL Gruppo BNP Paribas continues as main sponsor for the ninth year, with its prize acquiring a work from 15 finalists including Alun Be, Michele Alassio, Evelyn Bencicova, and others. A preview online will launch March 19 on the official site.
