Mia Photo Fair 2017 opens in Milan with 80 galleries and new country focuses
The seventh edition of Mia Photo Fair opened at The Mall in Milan's Porta Nuova district, drawing a large crowd. Founded and directed by Fabio Castelli and Lorenza Castelli, the fair maintains its format of 80 Italian and international galleries presenting monographic or collective stands, alongside the Proposta Mia section where photographers present their work directly. A new feature this year is three thematic focuses on Brazil, Asturias, and Hungary. The Brazil focus, curated by Denise Gadelha, explores the relationship between image and support, with artists like Ricardo Barcellos using torn prints to create spatial landscapes. Galleries are noted for bolder selections, including David Yarrow's large-format Siberian tiger print at Galleria Paola Colombari and Phil Van Duynen's enhanced portraits at Galerie Nardone. The fair also features an Artribune stand designed by IED.
